Professor Jeffery’s specialization is in medieval chant and the history of liturgical music. He is the author of six books and numerous articles in publications on musical, liturgical, historical, and theological topics. He is the recipient of the Alfred Einstein Award from the American Musicological Society (1985), the Paul Revere Award for Graphic Excellence from the Music Publishers’ Association (1994), and, most notably, a “Genius Award” Fellowship from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (1987-92).
