Daniel Hobbins Lecture: “The Articulate Middle Ages”

Daniel Hobbins, Associate Professor, Department of History, The Ohio State University, specializes on the cultural and intellectual history of northwestern Europe from the eleventh to the fifteenth centuries, with emphasis on universities, authorship and written culture, the Hundred Years’ War, the Black Death, Jean Gerson, and Joan of Arc. His article, “The Schoolman as Public Intellectual: Jean Gerson and the Late Medieval Tract” in The American Historical Review, won the Van Courtland Elliott Prize of the Medieval Academy of America. He is the author of The Trial of Joan of Arc, an introduction to and translation of the original trial documents, and Authorship and Publicity before Print: Jean Gerson and the Transformation of Late Medieval Learning.
