“When English Left England”

Tim Machan, Professor of English, Marquette University, teaches medieval literature and language. He is especially interested in social anxieties associated with change and variation in the history of English, also in the ways in which language uses in literature and everyday settings relate to one another and also in the relations between the disciplines of linguistics and literary studies. His most recent book is Language Anxiety: Conflict and Change in the History of English (2009).
