Deborah Black Lecture: "Constructing Averroes's Epistemology"

The Medieval Institute presents a lecture by Deborah Black, Professor of Philosophy and Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto. She specializes in medieval philosophy, especially Classical Arabic and 13th-century western philosophy. Her publications focus on cognitive psychology, in particular theories of the internal sense and the intellect, epistemology, and related topics in metaphysics. She is author of Logic and Aristotle's Rhetoric and Poetics in Medieval Arabic Philosophy (1990); her recent work includes "Certitude, Justification, and Principles of Knowledge in Avicenna's Epistemology," "Sensing Ourselves: Avicenna on the Nature of Sensation," and "How Do We Acquire Concepts? Avicenna on Abstraction and Emanation."
