Women as Fruit? What (and where) on earth is the Waqwaq Tree?

Shawkat Toorawa, Professor of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, Yale University

What and where are the roots of the Waqwaq Tree? What routes has it taken, and how? In the course of this talk, we will travel to China, to India, to the Philippines, to Madagascar and the Mascarenes, even to the New World and to hell (and back).

Sponsored by the Committee on Middle Eastern Studies and The Medieval Institute.
