The Medieval Institute is pleased to announce the University's course offerings for the 2023 Summer Language Institute. These courses make Notre Dame's exceptional range of ancient and medieval linguistic expertise available to the broader scholarly world.

The Medieval Institute has long had strengths in Greek and Latin and will be offering multiple courses in each language. In addition to Greek and Latin language courses at the introductory and intermediate levels, the University will offer an advanced course on Medieval Latin, taught by David T. Gura, Curator of ancient and medieval manuscripts at the Hesburgh Library and Associate Professor at the Medieval Institute. This course also qualifies for the Medieval Academy of America  CARA Summer Programs and Tuition Scholarships.

In addition to its courses in Greek and Latin, the University will also offer a second-semester course in Classical/Qur'anic Arabic, taught by Dr. Catherine Bronson.

Past Summer Language Institute courses have included introductory language courses in Coptic, Old Armenian, and Syriac as well as advanced courses on Patristic and Byzantine Greek, Latin Textual History, and the reception of Ovid's Metamorphoses in the Middle Ages.

All courses offered through the Medieval Institute's Classical, Medieval and Near Eastern Language Institute are open to graduate students from other universities.
