Professor Müller’s research focuses on late antique Latin literature, particularly the Church Fathers and especially St. Augustine of Hippo. A good deal of her work has concentrated on the substantial corpus of sermons and other homiletic texts that survive from this time period. Müller analyzes the relation of the sermon collections she studies to classical rhetoric, their use of biblical sources and previous commentary, and the effects of orality and improvisation on the material. Her other interests are in early medieval Latin poetry and exegesis.
