Lawrence Nees Lecture
“The Eagle Capitals in the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem”
Lawrence Nees, Professor and Chair, Department of Art History, University of Delaware, works on the art of the early Middle Ages, and is interested in both Western and non-Western artistic traditions. He is the author of The Gundohinus Gospels; From Justinian to Charlemagne: European Art, A.D. 565-787; A Tainted Mantle: Hercules and the Classical Tradition at the Carolingian Court; and Early Medieval Art, 300-1000. Currently, Prof. Nees is doing research on Frankish manuscripts from the 7th to the 10th centuries and working on a study of the coronation throne from Saint-Remi.
