Contemplation and Philosophy Conference
Contemplation and Philosophy: Scholastic and Mystical Modes of Medieval Philosophical Thought (27-29 July 2014)
A Conference in Honor of Kent Emery, Jr., on the Occasion of His 70th Birthday
A conference honoring Prof. Kent Emery, Jr. (University of Notre Dame), begins today, and brings to campus some of the world’s most renowned scholars of medieval philosophy. Organized by Profs. Roberto Hofmeister Pich (PUCRS, Porto Alegre, Brazil), Alfredo Santiago Culleton (UNISINOS, São Leopoldo, Brazil), and the late Director of the Medieval Institute Olivia Remie Constable, the event celebrates the career and work of an eminent scholar by offering a series of papers by his colleagues, students, and friends.
A followup “Festschrift” volume, edited by Profs. Culleton, Pich, and Andreas Speer (Thomas-Institute der Universität zu Köln), will contain 32 essays from conference participants and additional contributors.
The conference opens on Sunday, July 27, with a dinner/reception for speakers and invited guests. Conference sessions begin at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, July 28, at the Notre Dame Conference Center (McKenna Hall).
Online registration for the conference is available on the Morris Inn/ND Conference Center website. General registration is $50 and includes a buffet lunch on Monday and Tuesday, session break refreshments, and a reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages on Monday evening. (Notre Dame faculty and students are admitted free of charge but are asked to register nonetheless.)
Hotel registration details are on line. (Rooms at the Morris Inn, on campus and directly across from the Conference Center, are available at $139 plus tax per night, until June 24. A number of other local hotels and motels are within a short drive of campus.)
