Bonaventure and Thomas Aquinas in Dialogue: Colloquium on the 750th Anniversary of their Death / Bonaventure et Thomas d’Aquin en dialogue: Colloque au 750e anniversaire de leur mort

Location: Sorbonne University, Paris, France

This is a two-day conference, June 13-14, 2024, in honor of the joint 750th death anniversaries of Thomas Aquinas and Bonaventure. In honor of this event, the University of Notre Dame (via the Maritain Center, History of Philosophy Forum, and Medieval Institute) is collaborating with the Sorbonne, CNRS, and the Leonine Commission to bring 13 specialists together at the Sorbonne in Paris, to present papers on various aspects of the philosophy and theology of both Aquinas and Bonaventure. The program focuses on papers that will not just address one or the other thinker, but rather will take up the two together in a historical relation to each other---a surprisingly neglected mode of reading that we hope will increase our historical understanding of both medieval thinkers and raise to prominence ways in which they mutually influenced or disagreed with each other. The papers will be published in a volume edited by the organizers.
